The Knowledge that INDIA lost!

Right from the childhood, the search or quest for knowledge is present in all of us.

And, we have all been having a lot of questions about life, nature, the systems involved and all.

It is said that when we raise a question, we already have the answer. It is only a matter of time.

These days, we have people called engineers and doctors. Then, they were all specialists.

What I am going to narrate here may seem so unbelievable, even fantastic to some. But, these were the people that populated this part of the world called India now.

The Doctor that worked Magic

There was a doctor called Srinivasachari who had a clinic in Usman road, near Ranganathan street. The clinic had a trademark Krishna statue at the entrance; a typical large house converted into a nursing home. I think it was called "Laxmi Nursing Home".

You know, these days, we have doctors who prescribe tests, xray and scan by habit. That they get commissions from the labs is an open secret.

But, Dr. Srinivasachari was different. He spoke at length to the patients, to find out the causes for the illness. He took the pulse and examined the patient and finds out what the problem is. He spends about half an hour with each patient, prescribes medicine and his patients very rarely came back for another consultation.

His patients were half cured by the time they left the clinic.

The chemists at the clinic used to prepare medicines based on the prescription, unlike the factory productions of today.

His son Dr. Govindarajan was no less a doctor. Selfless souls who dedicated their life to the profession.

The Aasaari of olden days

They were called Aasaaris those days, experts in the maths (because everything is related to numbers) of buildings and open spaces. He can come and visit an open space and suggest how the building has to be constructed, where the well has to be dug and so on.

His kind were in complete contrast to today's vaasthu or feng shui experts, because they used a combination of learnt knowledge and divine knowledge to come to a conclusion or to make a decision.

He designed the plan for a home, when built will prosperity to the residents.

He can also visit a house that is steeped in poverty and ask if an extension of the building was done in recent times. He knows the answer. But, still he wants to know the truth from the residents.

He knows the new extension of the building at the south west corner is the reason for all the troubles.

Do we have experts like these in these times?

The Herbal Doctor

In Kerala, there is a, or rather there used to be a set of experts in herbal medicine, called Visha Vaidhyan, who were experts in poisons and the antidotes. The visha vaidhyan is the Indian herbal doctor, an expert who knew all about herbs.

They even had the uncanny ability to predict the coming of a patient who was bitten by a poisonous snake and ask the assistants to prepare the antidote in advance.

And, as if by magic, the patient arrived at that predicted time. That was the capabilities of the experts of those days.

These abilities are acquired by their close affinity with nature and their living their lives in line with nature. As their experience grew, so did their knowledge.

And, whatever they learnt, they passed it on to the future generations.

These are the arts and artists that are hardly seen in today's society!  There are probably a few to be found if we really search around.

These are a few examples of the dedicated souls that truly helped society. We fervently  hope there is a revival of the ancient knowledge of India and the country rebounds to be in the forefront of divine knowledge, as in the past.
