Will any bank offer interest without us depositing any money with them? Does any bank come behind us for default of loan instalment or credit card payment if we (ourself or a close relation) have not taken a loan or availed credit?
Similarly, Karma is nature's way of giving or taking back interest for our past actions, good or bad, constructive or destructive, beneficial or detrimental to others.
Whether we believe in God or not, nature or karma has its way.
I have seen posters about Karma which said "Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed.", "How people treat you is their karma. How you react is your karma", "When Karma comes back to punch you in the face, I wanna be there... just in case it needs help", which belie an understanding of Karma, while revealing a complete mis-understanding of Karma.
I wanna be there... just in case it needs help
It is not just physical actions that create Karma, even our thoughts have that effect. The last statement above shows residual anger and thoughts of revenge in the speaker. Eventually, that comes back too. People fail to understand that on the basis of Karma, if a person took you for a ride, it was your karma and when you accept it unconditionally, your karma ends there. But, when you start reacting to it, you are creating another cycle of Karma there. So..., be still.
How people treat you is their karma. How you react is your karma
The second statement above says Karma is the way one acts upon another. It is not so. The result is Karma. But, the act is called Freewill. You can choose to act in many ways. But, when you have completed the action, it cannot be reversed. What happens after that is Karma. Let us discuss the interesting topic of Karma vs Freewill in another instance.
I have a list of people you missed
The first statement implies that Karma may have missed someone. Karma is a natural process that happens not in one generation or two. We see it as missing its mark because, our lifespan in this world is only 120 years. We do not know what happened before and we will not know what will happen later.
