Which is the right way to proceed with an argument?

 Before we discuss the right way to proceed, let us first understand what an argument is.

What is the definition of argument?

An argument itself is a conversation between two people who are much distant from each other.

An argument is where we see people raising their voices unconsciously. Where do we raise our voices normally? Only when we are talking to people in a distance.

So, obviously, we need to proceed with the philosophical reasoning, to try and reduce the distance between us and the other party.

Not the sarcastic one because it will hurt the ego directly, create another inherent argument to prove who is superior, thereby failing our purposes.

We then need to proceed with reasons that could be reflected and verified and try to keep our cool at all times.

It is not about winning the argument, but about putting our thought across and getting them to understand it.

Most of the time, in an argument, the focus is all about how to prove our point of view as right. So, invariably, the opponents statements are fire-walled and blocked by the mind.

So, our point of view has to be split into smaller statements and communicated one by one, to create the understanding.

Bulldozing through the argument with all our points at one go never works. Further, if the other party has decided not to accept our side of the story, any amount of convincing will not work.

Instead of an argument, a discussion would help.  Because, an argument is where the conversation is to find out who is right, where as in a discussion, the conversation is to find out what is right.
