Why is Confrontation not good for a solution?

Why is it a bad idea to confront any case?

This is the season of Exposés.

Open the news channels and what we see, day in and day out, are news items which focus on the wrong doings by this person, that person, this group that group, this party that party; the list is endless.

In a country of 1+ billion people, is there going to be a dearth of news?

Obviously not.

But, the fact remains, that for one bad thing that is happening, there are a hundred good things that are happening too.

We fail to realize that we are a nation of good people, unbelievably good people. How else can we explain the allegedly horrendous mughals and the subsequent british occupation of the country?

We are a people who take nature seriously. We know that Nature is a great equalizer. And, subtle and mysterious are the ways of nature. But, nature is always just and in time.

Let us not name them, but, of late, there have been protests by everyone for everything.

This confrontational attitude that is being exhibited by people, is totally against nature. Let us take a leaf out of nature's book. Nature does not protest and give you any immediate responses to any of our actions.

Are you going to damage the forests by indiscriminate mining? Are you going to remove river sand as and when you wish? Are you going to take a bribe for doing what is your primary work responsibility? So be it.

Nature does not react, not like we do. Let us see what are nature's lessons for humans.

This problem of corruption and official apathy is not new to our country. Whoever is in power, will always exhibit a show of superiority of the official position that he/she holds.

This is the legacy that we have inherited from the days of the Raj.

We can protest all we want, but is it going to make any difference? No. Not if we continue this way.

Nature's approach

Let us see how nature addresses the problems it faces through man.

The river does not resist when a dam is built across. The result is the loss of villages and forest when inundated.

The earth does not resist when parasitic trees are planted with monetary focus.

But, it responds with ground water depletion.

Nature does not respond immediately when trees are indiscriminately felled. The results are seen in the following floods and subsequent drought.

Nature is also fast to recover. If we leave a clearing untouched, within a short span of time, the forest recovers.

Change the approach

We need to change people's approach to tackling problems. Let the government do things its way. We will provide inputs for the government to help it help the people.

We need to take things in our hand. Make the difference happen, without going for a confrontation.

Very recently, there was a TEDx talk by an anonymous group called "The Ugly Indian" in Bangalore, where the power of the people was amply demonstrated.

We need this kind of constructive approach to solving problems. There was this language protest in Bengaluru recently. The government should in fact, act fast and throw in solutions to defuse the situation. Allow all metro stations across the nation to have the name boards rewritten in all the languages of the neighboring states. So, the metro in Chennai will have name boards in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English. We can also include the languages that the local population speak; say for example Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati and Marwari can be added too in the Chennai metro boards.

Showing respect for other languages endears us to that society of people and creates a sense of belonging and brotherhood promoting amity.
