If everyone of us would believe in this sincerely upon every other being in this Earth, human or not, living or non living, then this country and the world would be a wonderful place.
Since, we now work on the principle of the singular “I” and not the all encompassing “US”, everything has become I and MY, whereas the Universe works on the principle of US and OURS.
Those 3 words are I RESPECT YOU!
The moment we Indians realize this, then the country would become heaven in an instant. Well, not in an instant, but certainly in one generation.
We will all agree that In every moment of our lives, we are busy taking things from others, including nature. At the same time, we are failing to learn from things around us.
We know that our positions of power and influence are temporary. But, in spite of that, we are all arrogant by varying degrees.
How do we achieve this respect for each other?
Nurture our children; catch them young!
We all know that what we learn as kids, we never forget till end of life.
So, we need to teach respect for others and rules, before we teach our kids the alphabets.
Teach the kids love, affection and respect for humanity, before we teach them anything. Teach them this every day till the quality becomes second nature.
Most importantly, teach this at school. Because, kids look up to their teachers more than they do their siblings or even parents.
Policing the entire population is not practical
For a country the size of India, with a population in excess of 1 billion, it is neither a practical, nor a viable idea.
We need to focus on building a self-sustaining system, where people are responsible to themselves and to the society at large.
There will be a few non-conformers. The police and the para-military is to take care of those aberrations only.
Respect is a two way street
It is easy to dismiss this as an impractical idea and concluding that changing the minds is impossible.
But, this is not a plan for tomorrow; it is the plan for the next generation. We need to ensure that all the future citizens of the country are given the same moral instructions till they reach 7 years of age. Teach them the alphabets after they are experts in morals.
Material development is secondary bye-product. A developed and civilized society needs to maintain high moral standards to flourish and elevate itself.
This is the need of the hour for the country to regain its lost glory.
