Why does God enjoy our suffering?

That is some accusation! Why does God enjoy our suffering!!!

These are precisely our thoughts "Why does God let me suffer so much", whether we are Catholic, Protestant or other Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Parsi or belong to any religion in the World. The thoughts probably are the same for the Atheist and Agnostic, though the questions may not directly include the word God.

This is also probably one of the most popular questions asked around the web.

On someone, who cannot defend Him/Herself here! Not that there is a need for defence.

Here is an explanation.

We do not say “Why does my president enjoy my suffering”, “Why does my prime minister enjoy my suffering”. But, given a chance we always say “Why does God let me suffer like this?”.

We do not hold the prime minister or president of our country responsible for our state of lives, because, even though they at the top of governance, our lives depend on us alone. We enjoy or suffer our lives because of our actions, past and present. We are solely responsible for our lives.

We also say "I sometimes wonder if there is a God! When I see these earth quakes and tsunamis all over the world, I do feel like, God doesn't care.

When we say that, we do not take into account the thousands of underground nuclear tests conducted by our governments all these years.

How will nature not react to such self destructive behaviour? Would anybody with a sane mind bomb their own homes? But we did.

Did we, for a moment think about the millions of lives (insects, small animals, reptiles in the deserts where nuclear explosions were conducted) lost in the process? Are they not worthy of any consideration?

When we ask ourselves "Why do I suffer so much in life?", we should consider the point that we are responsible, individually and collectively as a society, for all the miseries that we suffer from.

Consider an incident reported in news below.

Poisonous waste let out to Vietnam Sea

Very recently, I read a news clip alleging how poisonous waste was let into the sea in Vietnam, resulting in the death of millions of sea creatures including fish, and sounding a death blow to the livelihood of the fishermen out there.

Is God responsible for this? NO, It is us humans, who have been blinded by greed and care not for lives other than ours.

We do this, in the belief that no one is watching and we will not be punished.

God cannot be attending to each one of us; which is why this intelligent all seeing Universal system (of which we are a part) was put in place.

We assume that there is a God and assume that everything happens with his knowledge and orders. What we do not agree or understand is that we are a part of a cosmic system, where everything is linked to everything.

When that realization happens within us, we will realize that God does not hate us. It is not God that allows evil. It is not God that lets bad things happen and so on.

Most people are upset when children suffer. The predominant question of people who do not agree in God is that, if God exists, why does God allow children to suffer?

All these questions are based on the belief that this life that we live here is the be all and end all of existence.

We are so attached to this body of ours that we refuse to believe that this body of ours could just be a vehicle that we reside in for so many years, like the vehicles we use to travel from one place to another.

This realization that our present lives are an extension of another life in the past and our experience in this life is a result of our actions, inaction and reactions of a past life alone, would ensure that we lead a life of morals and good ethics in this life.

If we bring misery to others, we are liable to be miserable at some point in time. I suffer from depression and anxiety, because I brought about misery and suffering to someone else, at some point in time. That is nature's indisputable law.

Rebirths/reincarnations form the subject of another article, which is discussed here.

Understand the Universal System

We need to remember that in this system, we are all being watched; all our actions are being noted; the Universe is alive and responsive; this is a system that is completely automated; if we do a good or not so good a deed, it is always returned back, with interest.

God [for all we know, this God could be a group of highly advanced entities] is at the top, ensuring that the system of nature works.

We frequently ask ourselves questions like "Why God lets me suffer?". So, does God enjoy our suffering? God is just a referee. He doesn't enjoy our suffering. He just observes.

We will have to accept and believe that the Universe is always there for our rescue. It loves the people who love nature and all that is in nature and responds in kind.

Nature never fails and Nature is always Just.
