Is spirituality a practical concept today?

YES. Very Much.

Why? Spirituality is practical because all things in this world have a spiritual connection.

The problem arises only when we see spirituality as different from materialism.

For a truly spiritual person, money is also just a piece of paper, but with a value attached to it. So, when we enhance our spiritual life, while at the same time following our material pursuits, money does not bother us any more. Things do not get into our head. Our head is always level.

If God (we all know this is a disputed topic, but for the sake of argument) created this world, aren’t all things in this world spiritual, because an element of God is in every atom.

Spirituality keeps our head level

Material pursuits without a spiritual mind, will only lead do disturbances in life. When a lot of money starts coming in, there might be a tendency to splurge, on good things and not so good things (that may hurt us). The mind is not in control. This is when things go out of hand.

Spirituality is NOT religion

Spirituality does not mean going to the religious place and sit down in prayer. It is the love for all things living.

If we are an overtly religious people, while having ill will towards others, that means we are not yet there. We are still in the kindergarten of spirituality.

Some Atheists are Spiritual

In that context, all atheists who are in love with nature and have love and affection with all the people of the world and want to preserve nature are all spiritual, even though they may not accept it. Nature loves those who are in love with nature.

In essence, Material success without a spiritual support is like giving an apple and a knife to a child and going away.

There is a distinct possibility that the child may hurt itself and/or others, in the process of eating the apple.

How can I train myself to be spiritual?

Spiritual practice is simple. There is just one thing that we need to follow, to ensure that we are spiritual. We just have to promise ourselves that “we will try our best to ensure that our thoughts/words/actions do not hurt and are not overlapping on the freedom of another  being, living or non-living”.
