The Essence of India

The Essence of Indian Culture

There are two sentences, one in Tamil and the other in Sanskrit that come into our minds, when we think about India.

"யாதும் ஊரே, யாவரும் கேளிர்.", Yaadhum oorae, yaavarum kaelir; this is in Tamil. It means the whole world is ours; every one our own.

"लोकां समस्था सुखिनो भवन्तु", Lokaan samasthaa sukhino

bhavanthu; this is in Sanskrit. This is a prayer that wishes every being in this world to be happy.

These two statements capture the essence and the high ideals of the forefathers of this incredible nation, whose thoughts were far ahead of time.

There is one basic difference in the inherent thought process of a soul having a connect with India. It is that simple and extremely noble thought of happiness for every being in this world, which took us to great heights as a nation.

This part of the world is known to have a flourishing civilization dating back to 10000 years or more.

It is high time that we went back to our roots and created a change from within.

Respecting nature is Indian culture

What is so special about the Indian culture, one may ask. Like most of the ancient civilizations, it is about respecting nature. The ancients did not worship nature. They knew that man can only survive, if he respects nature and respects nature's laws. Any interference for selfish purposes, will result in the ultimate destruction of the paradise called Earth that we live in.

The ancients knew about the butterfly effect.

They knew that every action results in a reaction, the good is rewarded with multiples of good and the bad actions are rewarded with multiples of bad reactions.

What should India be doing?

All Indians should strive to bring in that essence of India back. We keep hearing about Japan and the incredible Japanese, whose life essence is respecting others.

That behaviour is what we should strive to bring into India. All of the citizens should be taught from childhood, about how everybody and everything matters in our lives.

The children should be taught to respect ourselves and others; put the welfare of others before ours.

What should the government be doing to recreate the magical India?

Nature works on the principles of give and take. We have taken a lot from nature. It is time to give back some of what we took from nature.

The country of India is blessed demographically. Most of the land is arable. So, the government should focus on bringing back agriculture as the major business in India. Cultivable land is our strength. Let the government put efforts to bring back the glorious days of India, by making India the largest producer of food in the world.

Revive the lost treasures (lakes)

Lakes and rivers are the lifeline of India. There has to be a consistent and concentrated efforts to revive those lost lakes and clean up the rivers.

Clean up the bureaucratic system

The present system of bureaucracy is in shambles. There are no systems in place. There was a movie, which was recently telecast in one of the TV channels, where they show the country as capable of successfully sending satellites to space, but fails miserably when a child accidentally falls into a hole dug for a bore well. The country does not have the equipment to save a child from below 90 feet of the ground.

Essentially, progress needs to be all round. And most importantly, the thoughts of compassion has to be ingrained inside the minds of every Indian.

The Indian should think on behalf of the entire world.

The laws of the land

How many laws can we pass? With the population of 1 billion, implementing laws becomes cumbersome and is doomed to failure.

Ultimately, the common man will lose faith in the system, as the system becomes slow, lethargic and non result oriented.

We change the mindsets of the people, make the majority of the people moral and respecting the laws of nature, creating and spreading pure thoughts around.

This action should begin in the schools, right from the kindergarten. Before teaching the alphabets, the children should learn about morality and ethical living.

That is the way to create a society of selfless souls, who respect their selves and of the others. Laws of the land can take care of the unruly minority.
